Becker fell in love with cooking as a teenager and fresh out of college attended The Culinary Institute of America. Since then, he’s worked in some of the nation’s most acclaimed kitchens, and with great restaurateurs. His resume includes Executive Chef of Capitale, Brasserie, the Starr Restaurant Group, and Catch Group. As Culinary Director for all Aurify brands he served as a founding partner of the fast-casual The Little Beet and its full-service restaurant The Little Beet Table, and of Hungryroot, providing his culinary inspiration to the vegan, gluten-free home delivery service.
Now as a restaurateur in his own right Becker opened Manhattanville Market in June of 2021. Manhattanville Market houses four separate culturally diverse culinary brands created by Becker including Benny Casanova’s,
Shai Hummusiya, The Botanist, Chef Chris Scott’s Butterfunk Biscuit Co., and Oliva, a Spanish tapas restaurant.
In partnership with Columbia University, all are located within the Jerome L. Greene Science Center on the school’s West Harlem campus. Previously, he operated a selection of delivery and pick-up driven ghost kitchens
in both Philadelphia and NYC and has also served as the chef of New York City’s Hotel Americano and La Central, where he oversaw the hotels’ food and beverage programs.
In 2022 Chef Becker, and restaurateurs Stephen Loffredo and Tora Matsuoka established Hospitality Department, a restaurant group. Their projects consist of all food and beverage concepts in the newly renovated Martinique Hotel. Opening in the Fall of 2022 will be Press Club Grill serving Chef Becker’s spin on Continental Cuisine, Sweet Graffiti; a donut and coffee shop, Bronze Owl; a traditional hotel bar with crafted cocktails; and Early Edition, serving coffee, tea, and baked goods. 2023 will see Uptown Trout, a charming, casually elegant fish and seafood restaurant in revamped boutique hotel The Franklin on the Upper East Side, and other restaurant projects.
A regular on television, Becker was invited to compete in Bravo’s Top Chef Masters in 2013, and has appeared on Iron Chef America, The Today Show, Dr. Oz, The Rachael Ray Show, and as a recurring judge on Beat Bobby
Flay. He has also lent his culinary expertise to the publishing world, penning three cookbooks: Eat & Beat Diabetes, The Diabetic Chef, and most recently, Good Fat Cooking.
As the cofounder of Autism Speaks to Wall Street, he has raised more than $20 million dollars for Autism-related charities. In his free time, Becker enjoys travelling with his wife and their kids.
